On Saturday, April 7, beginning at 1 p.m., rain or shine, the Greater Millsboro Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual Easter Egg Hunt in Cupola Park. Children between the ages of 3 and 10 will have the opportunity to scour for 6,000 eggs hidden throughout the town park.

“They’ll be gone in less than three minutes,” predicted Chamber Coordinator Amy Simmons, with a laugh. “It’s real quick.”

There will be three age groups for kids to participate in various age-appropriate games during the day.

“They’ll be an egg roll for the little kids. There will be an egg relay for the older kids, and for the oldest of kids, they’ll be doing sack races,” said Simmons.

There will also be a bonnet/hat-decorating contest, which will be judged by Chamber members, with prizes in three categories: most original, most creative and funniest.

“We would like to have the kids decorate hats prior to coming. It can be a bonnet. It can be a cap for a boy. And then we’re going to do a small parade in an area down by Cupola Park and have them judged.

Simmons added that a number of prizes will be awarded to the winners, including Shorebirds tickets and passes to CoCo’s Funhouse.

“We do have some really nice prizes this year to be given away. Two golden eggs in each age group – there are prizes for that – and we’ve got prizes for the hat contest.”

The event is free and open to the public. For a $5 charge, though, kids can get their picture taken with the Easter Bunny, who will be making a special appearance to greet the children.

“There will be pictures taken with the Easter bunny that people can take home with them that day.”

Simmons said that, last year more than 150 children participated in the hunt. She said she hopes more people will attend this year and participate in the family-friendly event.

“We had an awesome turnout,” she said of the 2011 event. “There were so many people, and most of the kids had at least one parent with them. Everyone was really thrilled with how organized it was and how smooth everything ran.
