Vojislava Lukic of Serbia claimed the second annual ResortQuest Pro Women’s Open’s singles championship on Sunday, outlasting American Sanaz Marand (USA) 6-2, 7-5 for her first singles title since 2007.

Serbian Vojislava Lukic claimed the 2012 ResortQuest Pro Women’s Open singles title on the clay courts at the Sea Colony Tennis Center in Bethany Beach, Del. It was her 5th ITF singles title and first since 2007.

It was the fifth career ITF singles title for the 25-year-old Lukic, who was once ranked as high as 203 in the world. On her way to the crown, the Serbian won seven singles matches, including two qualifying matches, over the nine-day tournament at the Sea Colony Tennis Center in Bethany Beach, Delaware.

For the 23-year-old Marand, who was seeking her first career singles title, the Bethany Beach event wasn’t without its highlights, as she and partner American Jacqueline Cako took home the doubles title Saturday.

In the singles final, in front of more than 200 spectators, the Lukic and Marand contest went back and forth throughout the first set, playing to an even draw at two games a piece. But Lukic began to pull away with a series of well placed shots and capitalized on a few unforced errors by Marand to take the 6-2 set win.

Marand regrouped in the second set and took a 4-3 lead before Lukic came back to tie it at 5-5. Lukic then unleashed a series of lethal drop shots that helped her pull away en route to the 7-5 victory.

This year’s tournament featured 60 pros from the International Tennis Federation Pro Circuit tour. Players representing 16 countries on five continents competed for a share of $10,000 in prize money.
