The effects of Hurricane Sandy were felt last night, with the storm’s high winds, heavy rains and major storm surges affecting the Coastal Delaware area through this morning.

Coastal areas, from Ocean City, Md up through Lewes, Delaware are still experiencing residual flooding and Coastal Delaware has been under a state of emergency and a mandatory evacuation order has been in effect since Sunday.

Areas of Route 1, including the Indian River Inlet Bridge, and the road between Rt 54 and Rt 26 are closed as of Tuesday morning.

Stay up to date on the storm situation by visiting NOAA and The Weather Channel. Also, you can visit sites like Delaware Online and The Coastal Point for local info on the effects throughout Coastal Del.

ALSO: Make sure you check in with the Town of Bethany Beach for Bethany specific news on road closings, storm damage, etc.

The damage in areas like Bethany Beach and Fenwick Island is still being sorted out, and roadways to those areas are still limited so hopefully more information will be available as the day wears on.

We hope everyone throughout the East Coast U.S. is safe and sound.
