Bethany Beach, Del. – Champions were crowned as the team of Lindsey Hardenbergh and Peggy Porter claimed the doubles title at the 3rd annual ResortQuest Pro Women’s Open at Sea Colony on Saturday.
The duo defeated the team of Denise Muresan (Lincolnshire, Ill.) and Jacqueline Wu (Holmdel, N.J.) 6-1, 6-4; giving the 22-year-old Hardenberg (Fairfax Station, Va.) her second doubles championship this year and marking the first title for the 17-year-old Porter (Dallas, Texas) on the tour.
The finals of the singles draw were also set Saturday, with Jessica Moore of Australia and Brianna Morgan of Beverly Hills, California advancing to Sunday’s showdown to determine the event’s third champion.
Morgan, 19, upended the tournament’s second seed, Brooke Austin (Indianapolis, Ind.), to move on after taking the match in straight sets, 6-3, 6-0. The University of Florida sophomore also took out the No. 3 seed in the first round and now looks ahead to a matchup with the No. 1 seed, Moore.
It was Porter who gave the tournament’s top ranked player all she could handle in the semifinal round. After Moore took the first set, 6-1, Porter rallied back to claim the second set, 6-3, before a highly competitive third set ended in a 7-5 victory for Moore.
Moore, who is ranked 385th, is seeking her fourth singles title on the tour while Morgan is playing for the first of her career when the two meet Sunday at 11 a.m. at the Sea Colony Tennis Center.
