Oceanova Spa offers quiet retreat
OCEAN VIEW — The faces have changed at Oceanova Spa on Atlantic Avenue in Ocean View, but the relaxing atmosphere remains the same.
Rosanne Shoemaker and her late husband, Glenn, purchased the established business in April from former owner Carolyn Rix, who moved on to being a full-time mother of two small children.
The decision to purchase the spa was an easy one for the Shoemakers, although it wasn’t something they had planned. Rosanne Shoemaker had worked at the spa for two years as a manager.
“It just kind of worked out. (Owning a spa) wasn’t on my radar at all,” she said. “I just loved working here, and I loved all the people.”
Shoemaker said the spa’s focus is on customer service and providing a peaceful and relaxing experience.
“We like to keep everything low-key here, very personalized,” she said. “When people come in, they’re surprised how quiet it is. It’s like a retreat.”
Oceanova offers therapeutic massage, body treatments, facials, nail care, waxing and spa packages, as well as several lines of products. The large facility has 10 rooms used for services.
“We have some very well-skilled massage therapists and aestheticians and cosmetologists,” Shoemaker said. “We can accommodate a lot of people at one time, yet it’s very personal. You might not even know there are other people here.”
Spa services for groups are a large part of their business, Shoemaker said, including girls’ weekends, bridal parties and families.
