Singles and doubles tournament will bring rising stars of the tennis world to the seaside resort’s acclaimed tennis center

Bethany Beach, DE, November 21, 2011 – Professional tennis returns to Bethany Beach for the second annual ResortQuest Pro Women’s Open at Sea Colony, to be held June 10-17, 2012, on the clay courts at the Sea Colony Tennis Center, located south of Bethany Beach on West Way Drive, just west of Kent Avenue.

Again sponsored by ResortQuest® by Wyndham Vacation Rentals and the U. S. Tennis Association (USTA), the singles and doubles tournament will draw nationally and internationally ranked women tennis players seeking to improve their world rankings and claim their share of the $10,000 in prize money. Up to 64 women will compete for a spot in the tournament’s 32-player draw. Qualifying matches will be held June 10-11, with the main draw beginning on Tuesday, June 12. Doubles play also starts on June 12. Admission to the tournament is free.

“We are honored and excited to host the event again,” said Thomas Johnston, Sea Colony’s tennis director. “Feedback from USTA and tennis players was very positive and has increased Sea Colony’s reputation as an internationally recognized tennis destination.”

Sea Colony is ranked among Tennis magazine’s “Top 50 Tennis Resorts in the U.S.” – including No. 3 for the budget conscious. Tennis Resorts Online ranked Sea Colony as the No. 13 tennis camp in the world, as well as No. 3 value for the dollar. With 34 tennis courts, including four indoor and 14 Har-Tru, Sea Colony offers a wide variety of camps, clinics, and private lessons throughout the year for players of all ages and skill levels.

“Support for the tournament was terrific,” said Rich Kent, tournament co-director and the Sea Colony Recreational Association’s tennis committee chair. “The enthusiasm in the greater Sea Colony community in terms of housing, sponsorship, marketing, player services and events is very strong as we plan for the upcoming event.”

The second-year event is expected to attract additional tennis enthusiasts to Bethany Beach and Sea Colony.

“Early June marks the start of the summer season at Sea Colony, and this tournament is certain to be a highlight of our 2012 season,” Johnston said.

Lena Litvak won her first singles title at the ResortQuest Pro Women's Open at Sea Colony


BETHANY BEACH, Del. – Lena Litvak registered her first ever singles title by winning the inaugural ResortQuest Pro Women’s Open at Sea Colony on Sunday. Litvak (USA), as the tourney’s No. 2 seed, took down No. 1 seed Maria-Fernanda Alves 7-6 (1), 4-6, 6-3 to claim the crown.

It was Litvak’s second championship of the weekend, as the Bronx, N.Y. native also won the event’s first-ever doubles title with her partner Alexandra Hirsch (USA) Saturday by defeating Alves and Angelina Gabueva of Russia.

BETHANY BEACH, Del. — Champions were crowned at the ResortQuest Pro Women’s Open at Sea Colony on Saturday as No. 2 seed Alexandra Hirsch and Lena Litvak of the U.S. defeated No. 1 Maria Fernanda Alves (Brazil) and Angelina Gabueva (Russia) to win the inaugural doubles title.

Hirsch and Litvak overcame a 5-1 deficit in the final tie-break set to win the match 7-5, 3-6 (10-8).

Earlier in the day, Alves and Litvak each advanced to the singles final, which is set for tomorrow at 11 a.m. Alves, the tourney’s No. 1 seed advanced by beating her doubles partner Gabueva in straight sets, 6-4, 7-5. She will meet Litvak, the second seed who also won in straight sets, defeating unseeded American Denise Starr (Boca Raton, Fla.) 6-1, 6-0.
